a stark recording. and cus it comes at me full blast right from the start, it's a stark presentation in songwriting and performance as well.

drums are a bit back in the mix ... sitting about 3 db below the guitars - which actually seem to be hotter here and there than the vox. mmmmmm ... not liking the mix cus of all this.

in spending some time to pick out the various parts far under the guitars .. I find the bass to be very cool in it's own right and that's followed closely in theme by the few keys I think I hear. it plays off the chords well - often rooting it out but sometimes going off on it's own ....

the drums are based on an anti-rhythm or at least only wanting me to groove in fits and spasms ...

the gits are all really well done. pro. off the wall just a bit but still quite on top of their game. in their way. heavily fx'd sounds but really exacting and well thought out. good dirt. like a rip saw at times - never boring. but oh so nervous ... no relaxation in this guys head. no room for conformity. no idea how to ease and flow. more how to herk and jerk. and do it well but if the truth be known, he makes me nervous. a bit.

the singer man is well experienced at what he does. there's plenty of cred here in his delivery. and tho he's stressed, he's comfortable being that way. and that's a big deal .... he sounds like he wants to be mel torme and david bowie's love child's cousin by marriage.

and I know I've heard him in quite a few tv commercials. if I'm wrong about that, I shouldn't be.

the lryics flowed well ... I'm not entirely sure what I just heard for a story but I know it had a great cadence with the hard to grab beat and made it seem like it was all on purpose.

it's mostly rock ... but it's also fully experimental in that it brings rock to a different place. far off the beaten path.

I wanted to like it. at times I did. but it was confusing it's tude. and at times I wished it was more convention.

worth my time. worth your time. worth time.

I'm gonna guess tho, that no rap groups wanna cover this tune.

is that a bad thing? it has loads of rock and other aspects but does fit the bill as experimental. and it wins this pairing hands down against a very formidable foe.

heh.

The vocals really sound like David in his non-pop mode. Lots of words, not quite sure what it's all about.

The music is unconcerned with conforming to any pop sensibilities, and there are stops and starts and stopping and starting, they feel as if they are all planned out, well choreographed, and it gives the entire song a general vibe and a coldness.

Take the injections, ye who are quarantined! The story is recounted but of a strangeness that the music exaggerates, and in the end I don't know the outcome, but I don't think there was a happy ending.
