Serpentine by Kim Christie
I'm getting there, but not directly.
Most of the work was done by Jay "The Squid" Quibodeaux, but I'm really okay with taking the glory. During the fifty-six years it took to complete this song, we were artistically divorced three times but remain firm friends with adversarial tendencies and joint custody of The Muse.
Down through the trees when the sun’s on its knees
The silver wanderer twists across the mire
However it goes undoubtably knows that
Somewhere there’s a mouth to speak its mind
How unconditionally serpentine
From our beginnings flow
Ridiculous endings of all kinds
Ooh it seems the stars are brilliant now
How could they have dimmed inside the day?
Ooh their prophecies fulfilling now
How could I have faced the other way?
Cos I’m absolutely serpentine
From tiny trickles flow…
I see what I planted; it’s typically slanted
But I look forward to where I want to be
And what’s in between, well, that could be seen
As a series of acts of desperation
Significantly serpentine
And the meander knows
Love is a direction, mmmm how the world revolves
Oh it seems the stars are brilliant now
How could they have dimmed inside the day?
Ooh one hundred thousand million now
How could I have turned the other way?
Cos I’m absolutely serpentine
Yeah I’m unconditionally serpentine
Ridiculously serpentine
Ooh I’m undeniably serpentine
I’m positively serpentine
