Surprisingly catchy pause

Tortured Artist Hop on Pop

There's something very daring to be different in it's pop sensibilities ala Ray Davies- almost a straight pop song, but then it deviates, takes tangents, and part of that detracts from the emotion, but I think it hangs on by a thread. Nice melodic transition around 1:10, almost a whole different song, and then around 1:50 another angle, then 2:20 again with the very funny I just want to be there when the shit hits the fan refrain just prior to the outro.

It's an interestingly crafted song to be sure, depending on that rather than super virtuoso performance. The bass is strong, and the guitar is good, just not out of control.

But it is not warm and fuzzy, sort of cynical observant, but not hopeless, more like recent revelation. I feel like it could be part of a concept album.
