A stage full of mournful

When You're Gone Liquidirt

So, whose idea was it to make this sound like a really big stadium band?
I'm not really convinced, and it doesn't help that it starts in an arena and finishes in a hall.
Anyway, the song's in there somewhere. It builds pretty well, with some decent harmonies and has a bit of emotional resonance. Don't know what it's about because of the screaming, but occasion phrases about not forgetting smiles suggest a love song - probably lost love. That would account for the sadness.
The opening lead guitar refrain has 'soaring bird' written all over it.
What I definitely don't love is the bass; the sound is horrible which makes its sparseness a blessing.
Can't find anything particularly memorable in this tune; I don't come out attached to any part of it. And I really don't have any suggestions on how to make me like it, beyond 'start again and do it all different'.
I suppose we're destined not to marry.
