Goya's black paintings

One Liquidirts Colabs

I don't know what I'm looking for in Rock, but my 80's album collection reunion party is gonna be tonight's stopover.
At least it's peculiar and sufficiently OTT to qualify as apoof. A singer with admirable chops and serious butchness warns of unfolding events with hints of megalomania, but I'm not immediately sure which biblical character/Cro Magnon deity is behind it. He impressively squeezes some tricky wordage like 'nature's loving embrace' into a rigid rock riff. Bruce Dickinson would be proud.
I find myself increasingly curious about the character as time goes on, enough to put aside the unimaginative pseudo drama of that keyboard-guitar fusion riff for a short while. But those pomp rock musical references really limit the idea to the medium.
There are some good moments, like at 3:25 "the eyes of God" has a nice ring to it. Not so sure about the synth knob-twlddling which follows, but it has a quirky charm and reminds me of Nice 'n' Sleazy.
And the average unqualified bod can't really knock the production; everything pretty crystal clear, especially in the drum corner.
In summary, don't hate it, don't love it, and don't have an issue with the way it was put together.
