A Stranger in the Night

This is a new song, not the newest, but it has been said it is like a malaguena. I myself am feeling it is extremely similar to something, but I can't pin it down. Any help appreciated.

I do hope you enjoy it.

A Stranger in the Night by Steve Bancroft

The edge of the road was a treacherous ditch
The fog was so thick I could not see an inch
I raced on ahead as fast as I could
For if I am caught this time it’s for good

What has become of my wonderful life
The woman I love, who would be my wife
Is that all a dream, a thrown away wish
Like a fisherman does to too small a fish

I must have gone miles, I felt luck was with me
When the road made a turn and the car hit a tree
A branch pierced the windshield an inch from my head
All I could think was I should have been dead

I kicked out the glass and slid off the hood
Tumbling free down into the mud
I reached in the back and pulled out the sack
My chance for redemption if I can get back

The night was so dark, the atmosphere soup
I leaned on the car and tried to regroup
But I could not see, and my only hope
Was moving ahead down that lonely road

In silence I stumbled, blind and forsaken
I could not stop thinking how I was mistaken
What tricks a mind plays in cold desperation
And I was a fool who fell into fascination

I am wandering in the dark, a stranger in the night
I hope it is a dream I’m in
And wake up in your arms
and never have this dream again

It feels more real each time it seems
But isn’t that the way with dreams
And is it not such irony
It is the same for reality

And then in the distance, I heard the sirens
Surely coming for me, and nowhere to hide
I stood on the shoulder waiting and they just drove by
It never occurred to me, I was invisible in the foggy night

And there I was standing on an old country road
In the middle of nowhere with the motherlode
And I was so tired, I laid down on the concrete
Curled into a ball and fell fast asleep

I am wandering in the dark, a stranger in the night
I hope it is a dream I’m in
And wake up in your arms
and never have this dream again
