First listen is pretty interesting, Ingo. There's a mixture of chinese and spaghetti western guitar that I'm getting thus far, and I'm impressed at how clear you got the vocals. Seems we now have two different versions for this one part, so I will relisten to what we had before.

I have set up my mics for recording the rest, probably will also go for a retake on the first parts as well. The funny thing is I have divided it into 3 parts, which is most likely not how it will be. No matter, I hope to record it in the next few days, and it can be divided up later.

I've made a few minor lyrical improvements in the next parts. I'm guessing once you have all the vocals in good solo tracks, we can think more holistically about everything. Each part in isolation is difficult to imagine as integral in the whole as on the one hand we need the variety, and yet on the other needs continuity or themes.

I was distracted by the birth of a first grandbaby last week, but I'm back to normal now.

Well, I thought I sent a reply earlier, but apparently not. Anyway, I am going to try to record the entire spoken part tomorrow, and I have a couple of melodic ideas as well.

I'm quite sure we will have four 4 minute parts in the end, and there is some variety in there as well. It is an intriguing arrangement, and I'm sure we will have need for plenty of music, so let's please not leave out any Kim parts we already have! I think the barroom scene is part of part 1 in the timeline. Things are all mellow in part 1.

The next part deals with the betrayal of friendship and dirty trick business but ends on a positive note for Dominique Angelique.

The next part is coming out of warp and finding out about the giant mink problem. It rolls into the reverse Pied Piper idea and the battle of the band. And finally the defeat of the mink, saving the castle, and nailing Sir Lancelot, the local villain, and wrapping the loose ends up. DA becomes the queen eventually, and Terence marries a local tennis pro who wants to play Wimbledon.

I am not nearly so busy as K is, Ingo, and I hope to contribute all I can as the parts come up. Once everyone gets a taste of the big picture, we can methodically break it up into parts with more individual character. I actually keep returning to the idea of Kim possibly being the Dominique Angelique voice that pops up in part 2 and part 3, or even similar to what you're doing in part 1.

Here is all the words.

Mink Stolen Part 1

Every planet in the realm has got
its private claim to products sought
of quality and otherwise unobtainability
that manifests an insatiable desirability
and it is mink and ocelot
on the planet Camelot

Now Camelot is a mythical place
and a mystical name for a planet, it’s true
but committees of college educated dreamers
often are the ones who decide what to do
so what if the people chose to choose their king
to rule with his Knights of the Round Table
upholding honor, chivalry, fairness and freedom?
how can one complain if it works for them?

For a hundred years the Arthurians thrived
utterly boringly uneventfully
and every year prepared for when they arrived
the interstellar fur traders, as they came known to be
with pallets of beautiful pelts highly prized
until this time when there was one single mink fur
large enough to make a coat floor length sized

so it is six months later, first word had just arrived
from the last ship to Camelot
the Starship Aquarius sits in space dock, fueled
with a bellyful of nkchiefs to trade
the crew all here, supply checks complete
ready to board the passengers in the morning
a party of six from MasterMade and ten military
led by a Colonel Tommy Bakersfield, not particularly normal
and twenty-five settlers, a balanced mix of men, women and preferences
tonight there’s time to have a few drinks with strangers
the blue Earth huge in the bar’s observation portal

she was sitting alone at a table
I knew who she was from the passenger manifest
the eldest daughter of Victor Vigeant
the world’s first quadrillionaire, owner of MasterMade
the largest and most profitable corporation of all time
her nanomakeup was working overdrive
I thought about not walking over and introducing myself
for about seven and a half seconds

TDP: hello, Dominique Angelique, I’m ---
DAV: --- Terrence Daniel Periwine, Chief Fur Trader this time
TDP: a pleasure to be known by you ---
DAV: --- oh, the pleasure is all mine!
I’ve grown up with the legendary tales
and was wondering how you were in the flesh
I smile into stormy grey eyes and say, fresh

her smile back is so subtly enhanced I forget it is
TDP: so what is MasterMade’s business, if you don’t mind me asking?
DAV: trade, like yours
TDP: for the giant mink, perhaps?
DAV: my father is so obsessed with it, and I just felt the urge to volunteer
a dark ripple of concern crosses her face, almost fear
TDP: good luck with that, but let’s talk shop later, dear
DAV: wasting no time, Chief Fur Trader, sir!
alright, now please order us both a beer

Mink Stolen Part 2

it has taken three months of constant acceleration
for the Aquarius to reach the 88000 miles per second
required to achieve warp speed today
what a day to wake up and find out bad news while still in bed
Simone the settler and Private Chip fell in love
and she cried because he would not be staying
when he told her a secret, he actually won’t be leaving for a long time
Ecstatic from the news, Simone tells Artemis
my fellow fur trader, who of course who tells me
so we plant a few nanospies in a few key places
and raise just enough curiosity to set off some alarms
we haven’t been at warp speed long when we get cold hard proof

MM1: he told her ---
MM2: --- but how much?
MM1: I don’t know
MM2: --- it might not be enough
MM1: she told them something, they were quietly asking around ---
MM2: --- but they don’t know about the base
MM1: no, but ---
MM2: --- or its purpose, about MasterMade
MM1: no, but ---
MM2: --- they don’t know about the video
MM1: I don’t think so ---
MM2: --- the deal we have, they’ve no choice now
MM1: um, keep your voice down ---
MM2: --- with the Knights of the Roun ---
MM1: how could they? only we know that
MM2: --- so we’re safe
MM1: I suppose
MM2: --- for now

I’m so mad I’d like to face them, her, right now
I won’t need no nanomakeup to convey my ire
how easily she deceived me, and I was a Level Three
but we have to learn just a little more
protect our tiny lead
leave them with no time left to score
their time is almost up, I say
you can count on that for sure

warp speed is oh so fast
it just gets started
and then it’s passed
time for a lovely dinner
a glass or two of wine
and check the readings
and our heading one more time
and then you’re almost there
literally within earshot
and for three months more
in normal space
we steadily decelerate
before we finally come to rest
in orbit around Camelot

so break out the good stuff for the half way there party
it’s starting right now so please don’t be tardy
it’s good luck and tradition so get out of your cabin
and like you would a good friend we’ll meet each other halfway
and as your host I have a special toast
please stand up, our guests from MasterMade
and let me applaud your cutthroat cleverness
I would have thought those Knights were too chivalrous
to succumb to the usual blackmail and bribes
but you are especially good at disguising bad vibes
and indeed I detected no trace in her nanomadeup face
and they looked like real tears in her augmented eyes

Dominique Angelique collapses in my arms
her nanoskin turning opaque, sensing her unconscious state
and I begin to doubt her complicity
and just as surprising Colonel Bakersfield’s face is red as a beet
and it hits me they were not in on the plan
they were both slammed as the proverbial shit hit the fan
she revives and pulls herself close and whispers in my ear
I didn’t know, please let me discover who is doing what to whom
she regains her perfect poise and silently walks out of the room
the party prematurely over on a note of doom and gloom
anger still flashes in my face
but inwardly I celebrate
because in spite of whoever she might really be
I could not help but like Dominique Angelique

Stolen Mink Part 3

every visitor to this planet who wants to be in the know
watches Days of Camelot, the top talk show
get the gossip and low down on issues du jour
and it was on every monitor, that was for sure
the first day was normal except for a brief mention
joking about a possible giant mink convention
now our final story this Gawainday
another in a long line of beautiful Days of Camelot
is a report on a sighting of a possible giant mink convention
but nothing to worry about, it’s confined to the outer region

the next day the tone was more grave
a villager was attacked and apparently eaten
and as we wrap up another Days of Camelot
some breaking news we are obligated to mention
a villager was just attacked and apparently eaten
we think by a giant mink
but no need for alarm, it was in the outer region

but today all eyes are super glued
in shock and horror from what is viewed
so unbelievable, this Galaday, so indescribable
you can see for yourself the giant minks on video
swimming across the moat
they look like fifteen foot hairy alligators
that can climb castle walls
men are lined up along the top
constantly pushing back the unceasing onslaught
on Camelot in an endless process quite manual

you’re the military, what is your plan?
you’re the captain, aren’t you the main man?
how about it, fur trader, it is technically in your purview
after all, you are after those furs, aren’t you?
they were right, I saw a fortune aside from the danger of painful death
from what we could glean there were tens of thousands of them
and I had a wild idea, sort of stolen from another fairy tale
the Pied Piper of Hamlin in reverse, perhaps use sound to repel
after all, we had a hold packed with nkchiefs, nanofabric tablets
they were fully programmable to stick themselves together
able to switch back and forth from soft to rigid
and assume any shape and size
to show large video and in theory play very loud sound
Leon has his drums online, I have my guitar plugged in
and we land in a mass of minks and the battle of the band begins

the cargo bay opens to a horrific first glimpse of these truly monstrous vermin
with long pointy white teeth that could rip you to shreds
but also coated with incredibly beautiful fur that looks utterly soft and ultra shiny
and we crank up the volume and get the show on the road
and fantastically in two minutes time the minks retreat a few hundred feet
but they scurry back and forth as if eager to try again any second
so we quickly load all the pallets in our ATVs and roll out onto the spaceway
and with some rapid reprogramming reconfigure the nkchiefs into a sound system
equivalent in decibels to every rock band from 1971 playing simultaneously
we warn the people in the castle to wear noise cancellation ear plugs because
Camelot was about to rock
so we play back our tracks and we jam along with ourselves
even in the soundproof cabins we feel the pounding rhythm in our bones
I never played so loud before or after
actually, nobody ever had!
flanking them on the left, we force a full retreat of the minks climbing up the castle wall
leaving a layer of their dead ten feet high at its base
soon they are escaping like a buffalo stampede in a cloud of tangerine dust
and twelve minutes later turns out to be enough, and we turn the sound off

hooray for the Interstellar Fur Traders! You saved us all
you saved the castle, we’re ever so thankful
will you trade us what saved us
these nkchiefs will be of assistance
to keep the giant mink at a distance
for those piles of prize furs

to me Sir Lancelot’s all too easy acquiescence has a gloating undertone
when Dominique Angelique suddenly reveals to us all
your crooked deal was with MasterMade, not me, Sir
which I find contractually within my power not to honor
no one can stop me, not even my father
let the people decide your fate now, I merely cause your exposure

you’re a fraud, fraught with flaws
a fake, not Knight or saint
and in light of this complaint
we strip you of your seat
and the same goes for your cohorts
expelled from the Round Table permanently
and in your place it would be complete
if it could be Dominique Angelique

I thought about staying, we were heroes and treated that way
but I fell in love with a local tennis pro
and she wanted to play Wimbledon one day
plus we had a record setting fortune of fur stuffed in the cargo bay

so last I heard she became the queen
some say that was Victor’s plan all along
all I know is that song became the planetary anthem
to this day they play it every sunset and sunrise
in remembrance of the time when life hung on the brink
and to forever ward off the beautiful giant mink

Here is the first of three files broken into beginning, middle and ending. I realize the last is long, I just haven't decided where to divide it.

mink stolen vocals part 1.mp3

I recorded all of this in a row, and I was very challenged by occupied house noises as well as paper rustling, mic knocks and loud breathing. On the other hand, I think it has a pretty good tone and enthusiasm level. There are some sung stanzas as well. This is very dry, very rough, I have no music to accompany so the melodies just are what they are. I keep thinking Rex Harrison and slightly musical style would make a cool minor theme to contrast with more rock and sci-fi soundtrack.

Mink Stolen vocals Part 2 (5:24)
Mink Stolen vocals Part 3 (7:23)

The entirety is about 16:50.

And Part 3.

mink stolen vocals part 3.mp3

And that's all there is!

In my opinion this is a lot better performance and recording than the last, even for part 1 already mixed, even if it is flawed. I have not applied anything EQ effects etc. I'm certain it could benefit from some. But I am pretty sure the new part 1 will nudge up nicely with the old part 1.

Anyway, I, K, it is more possible to imagine the whole beast now with all its movements. I like how he marries a local tennis pro who wants to play Wimbledon in the end.

I'm thinking we can use the sung parts perhaps in part 2 and 3 to deviate from the main melody/progression to shake it up a little, more like musical numbers than separate songs.

I'm thinking you take the lead on the music please, Ingo, and I'll do what you ask of me.
